Below are various members of Twin Oaks that have participated in our camps. Brenda Callen has been organizing children's activities and camps at Twin Oaks for over a decade. She and her husband, Philip, homeschool their two children, Elijah & Imani, ages 10 & 11. Jake Kawatski has been in over 40 plays in his lifetime, many of them involving children or theater for children including puppetry, costume and scenic design, as well as acting and directing. He has done Parks and Recreation theater workshops for children here in Louisa County, Virginia and also in Oregon. He has also taught art classes for children and has worked with Twin Oaks children in a variety of drama and art projects over his decades at Twin Oaks. He is a skilled vocalist, painter and gardener. Currently he is a book indexer, librarian and cook At Twin Oaks Community and has over 28 nephews and nieces, including 5 grandnephews. Lawrence Booth In addition to some theater work with children at our camps, Lawrence has taught children in summer camps and after-school programs. He has taught chess workshops for children. His hobbies include chess, juggling, yoga, writing, poetry, sports, and theater. Kate Adamson performed in theater for 15 years, and studied theater at Wittenberg, where she directed a show in college. She's performed professionally with the Know Theatre Tribe and Theatre IV in Cincinnati. She has toured all over the country with a professional children's theater. She has been a Montessori teacher (where she directed a performance of "Wizard of Oz"). She's led children's theater workshops. Her other interests include reading, cooking, crocheting, anything crafty or artsy, dancing, hiking, writing, philosophy, laughing, being barefoot, and helping plants grow. Ezra Freeman is an outdoors enthusiast with years of backpacking experience and a strong interest in plants and wildlife. Music is another big hobby for Ezra who is skilled with bass. He recently toured with a local singer/song writer around the country.. Hildegard Ott has designed an extensive, working herb garden for the community and produces both culinary and medicinal herbs. She holds yearly herb workshops for the public. Other interests of hers are landscaping, spinning, knitting, painting and crafts. Cleo Keller teaches quilting classes and makes and sells quilts. She's done workshops with fabric tie- tying and marbleizing. She juggles and is mother to 5-year-old homeschooler, Adrian. Marione Cobb enjoys leading cooperative games for groups of adults and children. She's attended several Eastern Cooperative Recreation School camps which teach cooperative games, folk dancing and singing, crafts and dramatics. Craig Green has worked with many groups and individuals with juggling, including Parks & Recreation classes. Also, is love for music has led him to form singing groups. Meredith Ishida has been a Brownie leader and worked at many Girl Scout camps. She loves the outdoors and enjoys sharing her knowledge of nature with children. Philip Callen has led birding and orienteering workshops for children's camps and has been an avid birder for over 20 years. For the past decade he has been intensely studying the Civil War. He helps homeschool his two children at Twin Oaks. Pele Prescott has shared her love of devil sticks by leading children's workshops on making and using them. She also plays guitar for a local band and is a gardener. Jay "Woody" Kawatski previously homesteaded with his homeschooling family in the Canadian wilderness for 10 years. He is highly skilled with a variety of crafts: (wood, leather, weaving) and is competent with outdoor survival skills.
