Outdoors Adventure Spring 2002

Activities that happened specifically at Drama Camp:

Solar Cookers and Camping Stoves - We made a large solar cooker. Simultaneously some children worked on their their own little stove, a lightweight alcohol burning camping stove made from soda cans, which they used on the mini backpack trip later in the week. (If you're interested in checking out how to make one before hand, here's a website you can go to: http://www.pcthiker.com/pages/gear/pepsistove.shtml.

Adam: Those were fun and worked great
Norb: I really liked it. I thought it was exciting, educational. It was a brief lesson in physics.

Open Fire Cooking

Foraging wild edibles
Hopper: I liked it. That was fun. The stuff really tasted good.

Tree/plant identification scavenger hunt

Marie: That was fun

Eole: I loved it.

Norb: I thought that was great. I noticed that the kids started to notice what plants and trees were what.

Tree climbing

Nick: It was fun. I climbed one tree.

Adam: I would like to do it more often.

Nature Games

Brooke: It was a WONDERFUL way for the different age levels to mix better than they had in some other activities. Adriane was light and playful and the children seemed to love her ideas.

Backpack/Shelter-building Overnight Adventure – Just a mile or so from base camp, we built some lean-to's for night shelter, and cooked on our new homemade soda can stoves.

Adam: This was really fun and if we do it again, I'd like to get up the nerve to sleep in my shelter.

Orienteering Course

Blake: Do it again! Do it twice a week. I liked how you had teams and you had to stay together.

Sharing Stage (a.k.a. Talent Show) - Held the last evening of camp. We had a large audience of Twin Oaks Members. It was indeed a grand finale! Some of the talents shared were: singing, trumpet playing, flute playing, magic show, marshal arts, jokes, snake talk, drumming, dancing, and juggling.
