I helped organize this years Womyn’s Gathering, though until that weekend, I realized that I had never been in a womyn’s-only space.  It was tremendous to be surrounded by all the womyn camping out in the woods at my new home, Twin Oaks.
Throughout the weekend, the womyn seemed to come together with a united purpose. There were so many womyn that helped beyond the 2 hours required, working cooperatively to set up each other’s tents, move chairs in the pavilion, or do one of the many other things that needed to happen.

Twin Oaks is a beautiful palace and these women were able to see part of that, with the two different trails down to the river, where the mudpit and sweatlodge were well used.  While some womyn relaxed at the river and others met new womyn or reacquainted with old friends, many others attended workshops.  This year, the workshops covered a variety of topics, from henna and tarot to consensus and an african medicine ritual.  Jaqui held her drumming workshop and Ananda led her “Turn up the quiet” workshop.  I heard participants saying that they were having a hard time picking which workshop to attend.  I gave a workshop on journal making, which was the first workshop I have ever given.  It was a lot of fun for me, as well as for the womyn who left with their own personally-created journal.

The kitchen did a great job preparing delicious meals and the meal line was always full of eager womyn.  The sharing stage on Saturday night which led into a dance was powerful.  Many womyn and children performed — telling stories, playing drums, or singing.  Jaqui dj’ed the dance with a wide variety of dance music.  It was great to see so many womyn in the pavilion moving to the music together. Twin Oaks loves to dance.

Sunday was a more relaxed day, with some workshops, but also people packing up and leaving.  It was sad to see all the womyn leave, but i knew we were going to be getting ready for the communities conference the next wekeend.  The womyn’s gathering seemed to be a tremendous hit — I know I had fun and look forward to next year!!
