2. Communitarians Unite. by Sky. A crowd of energetic, and highly affectionate, youth made this years conference the unique, inspiring and thoroughly enjoyable event it always is. Many newcomers to the Communities Movement joined a solid group of experienced communitarians to create an atmosphere that had both drive and focus. Laird Schaub of Sandhill Community gave workshops on Membership Process as well as Facilitation, C.T. Butler gave his usual rap on Consensus Decision Making, and Geoph Krozney previewed his video Visions of Utopia. On the more eclectic side, Sky Blue and Craig Green of Twin Oaks facilitated a playshop about a vision they call the Healing Carnival. Also, Promethea Tupelo of Twin Oaks gave a workshop introducing a new model of self-governance called Sociocracy and Twin Oaks first experiments with it. Other workshops included the always popular Polyamory workshop, an eco-tour of Twin Oaks building Kaweah, an overview of the North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO), and creating community where you are. Open space workshops were filled with contact improv, round-singing, sacred sexuality, group massage, and more. |

| The Friday evening fire circle found people drumming,
dancing and pyrotechnics from Frodo and Sky; it was a magical
atmosphere which set the tone for the rest of the conference.
On Saturday evening, Laird's barking during the traditional FIC
auction at ZK could be heard all the way from Nashoba. After
the sharing stage, conference attendees danced late into the
night, running on inspiration and sugar from the dessert pot
luck earlier in the evening. Since the conferences, Frodo, Sky and Valerie have been coming up with ways of using the momentum these events creates. We hope to create an on-line sharing group focused around creating alternative culture in Central (or Sensual in Frodoease) Virginia An event which will bring together folx from the Communities Conference, past and present FEC delegates and community builders in Virginia (this includes a regional pagan network, anarchist communitarian network, Catholic workers, and other communities and individuals) is also in the planning, to be held right before the FEC Fall Assembly is held at Twin Oaks.
