Twin Oaks school will be open to new students starting in July of 2001. Applications can be made to Keenan Dakota (see contact information).

We will start the school as a summer camp and be open to many students for the summer, hoping that some will choose to stay on through the more standard school year. The Camp will involve among other things, theatrical and drama experiences, building treehouses, canoe trips on the South Anna river, swimming in the pond and nature walks. We will have group trips to various parks and events in Charlottesville and Richmond. In planning stages are camping trips to the mountains and to the ocean.

In September, we will re-gather with three organizational days, then we'll all take off on our first outing of the academic year, which will be two weeks to Washington D.C. We will see the regular tourist sites, as well as less visitied tourist sites (the national Arboretum, the Post office museum) . Additionally the school will do some service work and visit organizations involved in lobbying and protest work.

We believe we have a house lined up to stay in in Washington D.C. So the group will all be able to stay together and not have to endure the rigors of camping out.

Mary Hall, a new member to the community, fresh from a year of teaching in public school, says she is excited about teaching in a less structured environment. We are delighted at the prospect of having Mary's experience, skills and enthusiasm as part of our school.
