Sunrise SLG. SLG means Small Living Group. Each Twin Oaks residence contains one or two small living groups which have a modest amount of autonomy. Sunrise is one group that has regular meetings and occasional outings. This photo was taken right after one of its weekly meetings, in the last 1990s.

Mele tours a visitor group. We have a quite structured 3-week visitor program, offered 10-11 times per year, for people seriously interested in membership. This group, probably from 2002, was getting a tour. Mele is in middle back, short hair and glasses.

Vegetarian festival group. Vegetarian festival group.
Vegetarian festival group. Twin Oaks members and two Twin Oaks visitors participate in various outside political and social events. These folks helped out at a vegetarian festival and were given nice t-shirts, besides the great food. Pictured are Bill, Ben and Debby plus two visitors in front (Elsa and Ben Visitor.) Not a cult. OK it does look like a cult. These Oakers however shaved their heads as an alternative to the chemical way to control head lice. Yes there are occaisonal epidemics affecting a bunch of us; some people have shaved their heads on just the mention of the L word.

Men's group trip. Rollie, Jesse, McCune and Rider hiked to a favorite peak in nearby Shenandoah National Park. The first three of us have long been part of a many-years-running men's support group. April 2004.

Little Shop of Hammock Horrors. There is a long tradition of home made plays at Twin Oaks, usually knock-offs of well know musicals. This ambitious one was directly lifted from Little Shop of Horrors. Coming soon will be a Willy Wonka remake.
